Built in practice

Selected work

UCS builds software products, implements AI systems, and helps teams run their technology. These eight projects cover production-line inspection, web and mobile applications, knowledge retrieval, and cloud operations. Each explains the need, our contribution, and the scope delivered.

These projects describe the scope and characteristics of our delivery, not guaranteed results. Where confidentiality allows, we can discuss more detail under NDA.

Food manufacturing

Vision inspection on a production line

UCS delivered the hardware, software, and line integration for a food inspection system that removes defective products in real time.

The need

The inspection had to connect what a camera could see with what the production line should do next. Detecting a defect was one part of the work; removing the affected product was the other.

Our contribution

We programmed and implemented the vision system, connecting camera feeds and image analysis to product removal on the line. The work covered the physical equipment and the software that coordinated inspection and action.

The delivered system inspects products as they move through production and removes defective items in real time.

Communications

A second calling line on one phone

Our team built a calling and messaging product that gives people a separate number on the phone they already use.

The need

People handling business and personal calls on one device need a way to keep those conversations separate. The product lets them select a number and use it for calls and messages without another SIM.

Our contribution

UCS worked as the embedded engineering team on the product. The user journey runs from choosing a number to calling, texting, and managing voicemail. Our work covered mobile and web application development.

The application brings the second number and its communications into one product, with caller identification, call blocking, and a custom voicemail greeting.

Community software

Moving a social platform to a new application stack

UCS rebuilt a social application, connecting account, profile, and group workflows to its services.

The need

An existing social application needed a new implementation across mobile and web. The work involved the everyday flows that let people enter the community, manage their profiles, and find their groups.

Our contribution

We implemented account access, profile and group flows, and API integration. Search and filtering were part of the group experience. Delivery also included QA across the replacement application and web work on the client’s server.

Mobile builds were delivered for internal testing and test distribution, alongside a web staging version for review.

Business software

From a signing request to a completed document

Our team built a web and mobile signing product with multiple signers, progress tracking, and reminders.

The need

A signing workflow has to handle more than a signature field. Documents move between people, some in sequence and some at the same time, while the sender needs to know what is still waiting.

Our contribution

UCS delivered the product through embedded engineering. Users can prepare and send documents, choose sequential or parallel signing, and follow their progress. The application supports web and mobile use, including document drafts and cloud file access.

Status tracking and scheduled reminders support the workflow through to the final signature. Users can also void a document and notify its recipients when a request should no longer proceed.

A document branches to two signers and comes back together as a completed document, with a reminder beside the pending signer.

Education technology

Making recorded classes searchable

UCS connected speech-to-text and retrieval so a learning platform could make its class recordings searchable.

The need

A recording preserves a class, but a learner returning with a question needs to find the relevant material. The work was to make spoken lessons available for retrieval.

Our contribution

We used speech-to-text to turn recordings into searchable content and connected that material to an interactive retrieval system. The implementation runs on the education firm’s own inference endpoints.

Learners can query the recorded material instead of relying only on playback to find a topic. The system combines transcription, content retrieval, and an interface for questions over the classes.

A class recording becomes a transcript. A learner’s question points to a relevant passage.
A question leads back to the recorded lesson.

Business software

Applications built around client work

UCS built business applications for project delivery, client relationships, and document signing within a common product account.

The need

A services business manages several connected kinds of work: winning an engagement, organizing its delivery, and getting documents signed. Each application needs to be useful on its own.

Our contribution

Our embedded engineering work supported a suite covering projects, customer relationships, and signing. Project workflows include task planning, time capture, and work reports. Client workflows include deal stages, ownership, activity history, and follow-ups.

The applications share account access and a common product experience. Teams can use the application they need and add another as their work changes.

Projects, client relationships, and documents are three distinct applications connected to one account.

Healthcare technology

Putting a cloud operating model in place

UCS helped a healthcare business organize its cloud use, operating procedures, and delivery capacity.

The need

The business needed a shared approach to cloud operations across business units, with documented procedures and delivery capacity.

Our contribution

We ran a focused consulting engagement, established a cloud center of excellence, and added dedicated delivery capacity. The work included standardizing cloud use and documenting operating procedures.

The engagement put a shared approach and supporting team structure around cloud operations. It addressed how the environment was managed as well as how technical work was staffed.

Cloud operations need a team and a shared way of working.

Financial software

Leasing and refinancing workflows

UCS delivered application work for a leasing and refinancing platform, including administration and borrower-related workflows.

The need

Leasing and refinancing work involves borrowers, administrative users, and the items being financed. Those relationships need to be reflected in the application’s forms and workflows.

Our contribution

We implemented administration and borrower workflows, along with screens for adding multiple items. The work connected interface changes with the application behavior behind them.

UCS delivered these changes as an agreed development milestone.
